News Flash:
Sadly, we have had to cancel the Guy TORTORA gig on 17 November.
Brooks Blues Bar is suspending activity for the moment as our current venue at the Parsons green club is not suitable.
We are planning to have some pop-up gigs in 2024 at the White Horse pub in Parsons Green. It's near the tube and no traffic restrictions.
We'll be in touch in the New year.
Thank you all for your loyal support over the years.
Tony and Ann

JAKE LEG JUG BAND
14/10/23 at The Parsons Green Sports & Social Club SW6 3DP in association with Brooks Blues Bar (www.brooksbluesbar.co.uk).
The Jake Leg Jug Band bring you the authentic sounds of 1920's and 30's America - Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Ragtime - and put their own twist on it. Songs of murder, betrayal, gambling, liquor and redemption.
Signing to one of the UK's most prestigious Jazz labels ‘Lake Records’ they recorded albums as part of the 'Vintage Recording Project' essentially recording all live around ribbon microphones, as it would have been back in the 1930’s. Four albums released in five years; ‘Cotton Mouth’, ‘Next Stop!’ ‘Everythin's Jake’ and ‘Break a Leg’ all met with rave reviews;
'A masterpiece of nostalgic music. The band display real virtuosity and create a wonderful sound that will be hard for any other band to repeat' Folk North West
'Expert musicianship and great arrangements....highly recommended' Just Jazz
'Instrumental virtuosity. Very enjoyable, very listenable' Blues & Rhythm
'A wonderful album. Expert musicianship and superb arrangements' Fatea
'Good time music from a good-time group' The Jazz Rag
The band followed up with 'Fifth Avenue', their debut release for the Green Bullet record label in late 2018.
'Pick any track at random and prepare to be entertained ' RnR
'Swinging like a barn door in a Texas breeze, the album shows the tightness of a band that have spent many years on the road' Fatea
'A fine feast of good-timing jug band music, blues, vintage jazz and hokum with a nicely humorous attitude ' Blues News (Norway)
January 2020 saw the release of album number 6, 'Goodbye Booze' which commemorated 100 years since the start of the American prohibition, again released on the Green Bullet label and in 2021 the album saw it's vinyl release on Coastal Light Records.

“Pretty damn good! There isn’t a weak number on the album” Blues Matters
“This time around the five piece is augmented by several guests but the sound remains as joyous as ever. There is not a poor track on the album” R 'n' R

GUY TORTORA featuring JANOS BAJTALA
17/11/23 at The Parsons Green Sports & Social Club in association with Brooks Blues Bar (www.brooksbluesbar.co.uk).
Born and raised in Pasadena California Guy Tortora is currently based in London, in the UK.
What he does as a songwriter and performer is what people like to call Americana these days -- a hard term to define as it seems to mean different things depending on who you're talking to. But if to you it means original songs, well constructed and well performed, in some of the various musical idioms that originated in the USA -- blues, jazz, folk and roots -- and also interpreting the work of other writers in these genres with depth and feeling, then you should check out his work if you haven't already.
Over the last few years he has laid claim to a unique niche on the Blues 'n' Roots scene in the UK and European Continent, from small clubs and theatres to festivals. His two recent solo albums received a warm welcome in the Blues 'n' Roots reviews, a third album was released in 2008 to great acclaim from reviewers and audiences alike. When travelling light, he performs in stripped down acoustic mode either on his own, or accompanied by bass or keyboards. At many UK gigs he appears with the Guy Tortora Band, his own four-piece outfit of accomplished musicians from the UK and Europe. With this band he has performed live with artists as diverse as Eric Clapton, Pee Wee Ellis, John Cleary and Eric Bibb. He has gigged across North America and much of Europe. He also performs solo, and in duo or trio format with his regular members of the Guy Tortora Band: bassman Costa Tancredi, or keys player Janos Bajtala. Recently he has formed an acoustic duo partnership with Ben Tyzack of UK band Spikedrivers.
Guy is a guitar player of some accomplishment and a distinctive songwriter. On both acoustic and electric guitars he plays finger style, and is a fine bottleneck and slide player. His playing is not the flashy guitar-slinger style beloved of bluesrockers everywhere, but understated, and leaves room for the songs to make an impact, whether his own or the 'covers' he performs that include many old standards and traditional tunes as well as songs by more recent American writers such as Eric Bibb or Kreig Viesselman.
GUY AT THE BRITISH BUES AWARDS! Two nominations for Guy among the finalists for the 2016 British Blues Awards! JULY 2015 -- NEW ALBUM: BLUESMAN IN A BONEYARD was released in the summer of 2016. The physical album is distributed by Pproper Music and available also as a digital download from iITUNES and other digital sellers.

Bluesman Toby Walker from the USA plays acoustic guitar with the virtuosity that captivates audiences and, along the way, he includes some amusing songs and great stories, making for a great evening of entertainment with a capital E.
Internationally and nationally acclaimed Toby has been hailed as an award winning, roots music fingerstyle guitar virtuoso and songwriter who has toured the US, the UK, Canada and Europe. Blending the styles of blues, ragtime, country, bluegrass, old-time jazz and rock, Walker has developed his own style and as such, received numerous awards, including being the 1st place recipient of the International Blues Challenge Award in Memphis and the New York Music Award for best instrumental CD. Toby Walker has also been inducted into the New York Blues Hall Of Fame.
'If he doesn't get them with his phenomenal guitar playing or catchy songs, he gets them with his wonderful stories. True entertainers have an engaging spirit that puts a smile on your face. Arlo Guthrie has it. David Bromberg has it. And so does Toby. ' John Platt - WFUV
'Flat out... you have to hear this great musician... I'm blown away' Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna and the Jefferson Airplane
'A fingerpicking guitar virtuoso' Happy Traum
'Your music is just fantastic and beautiful.' Sam Phillips, Sun Records
'Not only can Toby play all styles of the blues, but he's a remarkable story-teller as well. And you'll be surprised by what else he'll pull out of his hat to please his audiences. He may come out with an arrangement of 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' or 'Ain't Misbehavin' followed by an Irish fiddle tune medley (on guitar), a couple of rousing singalongs and top it all off with his arrangement of the Allman Brothers tune 'Little Martha,' Whipping Post' or even a traditional bluegrass tune.' He takes the audience on one heck of a ride and leaves them smiling all the way home!!' John Sheridan - The London Sunday Times.
